Thunderous Applause

Lesley's blog. 12th December

Kahororo school. Lesley was interviewed by Janet.

J. What were your first impressions when you arrived at the school today?
L. Much more rural & open plan, less shade, more chaos, looked poorer.
J: what were the ages of the children today & did the children seem as different as the place seemed compared to the school in town?
L: some of the children seemed really young, perhaps as young as 3 or 4. I spoke to a boy who said he was 16, but looked much younger. They were just as shy when we arrived & the school uniforms seemed the same. They quickly became noisy. Headteacher had to tell them to 'zip it' during the gathering!

J: Were there any highlights from today?
L: The highlight was my little shadow 'Grace' (not her real name). She followed me round all day. I was playing with animal finger puppets with her & she started chatting to me in her own language. She laughed when I made animal noises for her. She was a sponsored child. Someone outside her family really loves her.
The nadir was the rain! Thunderous & torrential... It drove us all indoors. Thanks to quick thinking from the whole team, we all had loads of fun. (They should have been playing games).

It was nice to see more Ugandan scenery... now I'm just ready for a good sleep!!
