When Nature Calls
15th Dec. Blog by Barbara, Ellie & Zaya.
We woke this morning after a night in our rustic pretty lodges. We rejoice in hot showers & delicious food & proper coffee. The waiters greeted us with the now familiar, 'How was your night?' Responses varied... 'Good', 'Fair' & 'a bit ok'! Our mesh bedroom windows allowed all the night sounds to keep some of us awake wondering. .. What was the bird? cows? Baboons? But it didn't matter for the privilege of being in this breathtakingly beautiful natural environment.
It was Ellie & Zaya's turn to lead us in our morning devotion & prayers. We decided this should make up the content of the blog today as they expressed what they feel about the trip so poignantly & clearly.
Ellie:
So as I reflect on my journey, I am amazed at the majesty of God’s creation. Yesterday, when we saw the warthogs, zebras, cows, and all the vibrant birds. Each animal moved with a grace and purpose that reminded me of the infinite care God has put into creating every living being.
The trees stood tall and majestic, branches stretching toward the heavens. The clouds, painted across the sky, proclaiming the glory of their Creator. Every part of this land speaks of God’s artistry, wisdom, and love.
This then reminded me of the words from Psalm 104:24-25:
“How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small.”
This passage calls us to pause and reflect at the variety and beauty of God’s creation. From the smallest bird to the largest tree, each element of nature is a testimony to His creativity and care.
Let us all remember that God, in His infinite wisdom, made all things not only for His glory but also for our joy. As we encounter the wonders of nature, we are invited to see His fingerprints in every detail. The same God who painted the sunsets and gave the zebras their stripes also watches over us with boundless love.
Let this be an encouragement to us to care for the world He has entrusted to us, to steward it well, and to find moments of worship in the beauty that surrounds us. May our hearts be filled with gratitude and reverence for the Creator of all things.
Then Zaya prayed:
Heavenly Father,
We come to You this morning with hearts full of gratitude.
Thank You for the privilege of serving the children we’ve met, for the chance to share Your love, and for the lessons they’ve taught us in return. Their strength and joy inspire us, and we entrust them into Your care. We pray that You bless their lives with hope and opportunities.
As we wake up to this beautiful 360 view, we stand in awe of Your greatness. The zebras, warthogs, birds, and the vast landscape remind us of how significant You are. We thank You for this moment to reflect and rejoice in all we’ve experienced at the hands of Your creation. And, Lord, we pray that we might see some hippos and giraffes today, maybe even a lion if we’re lucky!
We ask for Your protection as we begin our journey home. Keep us safe every step of the way. Bless this amazing team, whose faith and wisdom have inspired me so much. Lord Thank You for this opportunity at the age of 21.
I also want to personally thank You for healing me. I had started to doubt that I would feel better by the time we fly home, and I was dreading the long journey in pain. But You blessed me and answered my prayers. Thank You, Lord.
May the impact of this trip remain in our hearts and lives, and may we carry Your love forward in all we do.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
We hope this blog encourages you as well as us. It reminds us that God is at the centre of all Global Care does & without Him there would be no trip. Thank you to those of you who have been praying for us. We've known we're not alone here. We love you.
Tomorrow is our last day, Kampala here we come.
